Attic insulation price guide

SFL Attic is a guide run by Terragroupe, LLC. We do not install anything and we are not booking jobs yet.

National price guides list blown-in fiberglass at 1.60-2.40 USD per sq ft1 installed and open-cell spray foam at 3.80-4.95 USD per sq ft1 (PickHVAC, May 2026). For a 1,500 sq ft attic that comes to 2,400-3,600 USD1 for fiberglass and 5,700-7,425 USD1 for open-cell foam (our arithmetic). These are national ranges, not a South Florida quote.

Price by attic size and insulation type

This table is our arithmetic. It multiplies each attic size by the low and high price per square foot in PickHVAC's national guide: 1.60-2.40 USD per sq ft1 for blown-in fiberglass, 1.90-2.75 USD per sq ft1 for cellulose, 3.80-4.95 USD per sq ft1 for open-cell foam and 5.35-6.75 USD per sq ft1 for closed-cell foam.

Installed price range by attic floor area. Our arithmetic from national guide rates, not a quote.
Insulation type1,000 sq ft1,500 sq ft2,000 sq ft
Blown-in fiberglass1,600-2,400 USD12,400-3,600 USD13,200-4,800 USD1
Blown-in cellulose1,900-2,750 USD12,850-4,125 USD13,800-5,500 USD1
Open-cell spray foam3,800-4,950 USD15,700-7,425 USD17,600-9,900 USD1
Closed-cell spray foam5,350-6,750 USD18,025-10,125 USD110,700-13,500 USD1

Foam is priced on the surface it covers, which is the roof deck. On a pitched roof that is more than the attic floor, so a real foam bid can run higher than its row here.

As a cross-check, Block Renovation (July 2026) lists a typical 1,500 sq ft attic at 2000-4500 USD2 and a 2,000 sq ft attic at 3000-7000 USD2. Your own price needs someone to measure the attic.

Subtract FPL's ceiling rebate of $220 per installation if your attic qualifies 3. The federal 25C credit is over 4. Both are covered under Rebates and credits below.

For your own attic size and R-value, with the gap to the code minimum and a check against the FPL rebate conditions, use the attic cost and gap calculator.

What moves the price of an attic job

Blown-in versus spray foam cost

PickHVAC (May 2026) lists open-cell spray foam at 3.80-4.95 USD per sq ft1 and closed-cell at 5.35-6.75 USD per sq ft1.

Block Renovation (July 2026) lists blown-in at 1.00-3.00 USD per sq ft2 and spray foam at 1.50-5.00 USD per sq ft2, without splitting open-cell from closed-cell. Angi (October 2026) lists blown-in at 1-4 USD per sq ft5 and spray foam at 2-5 USD per sq ft5.

At PickHVAC's per-square-foot foam prices, a 1,500 square foot attic comes to about 5700-10125 USD1 (our arithmetic: 1,500 times the low and the high price). A pitched roof deck has more surface than the attic floor, so real bids can differ.

One Broward County contractor's blog lists a typical retrofit at 1700-7500 USD6 for any type. That seller also sells foam, so treat the figure as a cross-check, not a quote.

Rebates and credits

As of October 18, 2026

FPL's ceiling insulation rebate is $220 per installation, credited on the invoice of an FPL-approved contractor 3. Your existing attic insulation must be below R-8 3. The whole attic must also be open to reach 3. It is one rebate per home every 20 years 3.

Additions and renovations, flat roofs, and insulation over unfinished drop ceilings do not qualify 3.

FPL's page showed the rebate as current on October 18, 2026, with no end date announced 7. Check FPL before you hire anyone.

The federal 25C credit is over 4. It covered only property placed in service on or before December 31, 2025 4. Some older pages still list it, so ignore them.

We found no other insulation rebate we can verify. If someone quotes you one, ask for the program page.

Questions people ask

How much does attic insulation cost in South Florida?

Block Renovation (July 2026) puts a typical 1,500 square foot attic at 2000-4500 USD2 and a 2,000 square foot attic at 3000-7000 USD2 for blown-in. These are national guides, not South Florida quotes. A real price needs someone to measure your attic.

Is spray foam worth the extra cost in Florida?

It depends on your house. Foam on the roof deck can seal the attic, and Florida's wind-mitigation form lists it as one way to qualify for a sealed roof deck 9. Some inspectors dislike it because it can hide roof leaks. Blown-in is enough for many attics. See the comparison guide.

Does removal add to the cost?

Yes, when old insulation has to go. Guides list removal at 1.00-1.50 USD per sq ft5. Suspect asbestos or vermiculite? Stop. That needs a licensed abatement contractor, and we do not handle it.
